On January 28, 2025, a meeting organized by "Capital Markets Mongolia" was held with professionals from member organizations involved in the capital market. The acting CEO of the Mongolian Stock Exchange (MSE), B. Dulgoon, participated as a guest.
During the meeting, questions were raised about necessary reforms in the securities market, the enforcement of standards and regulations for companies listed on the exchange, and future plans to increase demand and supply in the capital market. In response, B. Dulgoon, the acting CEO of MSE, stated:
"First of all, to create a more favorable trading environment, we need to improve the infrastructure of the capital market, including system upgrades. While the cost of these upgrades is not low, organizations such as the Mongolian Central Securities Depository, the Mongolian Securities Clearing Center, and the Mongolian Stock Exchange must complete these necessary tasks. The need for system upgrades has been pressing for many years. Therefore, we foresee that the MSE will have to mobilize at least one-third of its human resources to undertake this challenging task."
He further elaborated: "We are also working to improve the enforcement and monitoring of reporting standards for publicly listed companies. One improvement we are exploring is making it easier for securities companies’ analysts to access and directly download reports for research purposes."
To boost demand in the capital market, B. Dulgoon emphasized the importance of increasing public awareness and education on the capital market. He suggested that securities companies, underwriters, infrastructure organizations, and the Financial Regulatory Commission should collaborate to raise public knowledge and promote investment.
On increasing supply in the capital market, he noted that the key driver would be competition among underwriting companies. As underwriters directly approach companies interested in issuing securities, competition will improve both the quantity and quality of securities on the market.
"This will allow the market to function without overheating or artificial inflation. Sellers and buyers will meet naturally, and the market will operate based on supply and demand," he concluded.
The meeting ended with a discussion among market participants on how to collaborate further on market activation and improvement efforts.
